Career Boost 1

Career Boost 1 is a higher level of respect from senior management. A level of respect that you will have earned by using their language to prove the value of your program.

If you've never measured the results of your program, and you start measuring for the first time, you're likely to make a pleasant discovery: you're more profitable than you thought you were.

How can I possibly make this prediction without even meeting you? Simply from observing the experience of many other people in your situation.

For 16 years, I've taught marketing metrics to advertising and public relations people. Corporate and agency. This knowledge enabled them to measure and increase the profitability of their programs. To prove they were profitable and then become more profitable.

My clients have included companies of all sizes, from tiny medical clinics to global manufacturers. Sorry, no names: these companies emphatically do not want to let their competitors know about their "secret weapons," and I am under contract not to tell.

The Odds Are in Your Favor

I don't know the specifics of your program, so I can't actually guarantee that your program is profitable. But I do know that the odds are overwhelmingly in your favor. I have examined more than 400 advertising and PR programs, and all but two paid for themselves.

Most of the programs returned at least 200 percent over their cost (an ROI of 200 percent). Several smaller programs returned more than 1,000 percent, and a few returned 5,000 percent. Even the two unprofitable programs could have been made profitable through fine-tuning.

To a company owner or a CEO, these kinds of numbers are paradise.

Imagine the Payoff

It's very likely that you are running one of the most profitable functions in your company. Imagine what would happen if you could prove that.

It would be Career Boost 1. It would make you so valuable that your management would appreciate you as never before. You might even discover that the heads of other companies are trying to recruit you.

I'm not suggesting that you're looking to change jobs. But wouldn't it be nice to have the security of knowing that you are one of the very few marketing communications people who can prove they are profitable? Which brings me to the second way that measurement can boost your career: Career Boost 2.
